Editing Locations in ZetaSafe

đŸŽ„ Video Walkthrough: A video guide accompanies this article — watch it here.

Overview

All data associated with a location in ZetaSafe is fully editable at any time. Every change is recorded in the audit trail, so you can track and review previous values at any point.

How to Edit a Location

  1. Navigate to the relevant location in ZetaSafe.

  2. Select Edit Location from the right-side menu.

  3. Make your changes and save.

All edits are automatically recorded in the audit trail, maintaining a full history of changes made to the location.

Location Hierarchy Best Practices

While location trees can contain multiple tiers, it is recommended to limit the number of tiers where possible. Deep hierarchies can affect usability, particularly for:

  • Handheld users on smaller screen devices — navigating through many tiers can be challenging on mobile.

  • Situations where a barcode has been removed or is unreadable — technicians will need to manually navigate the location tree to find the asset, which becomes more difficult with a deeply nested hierarchy.

Tip: Keep your location hierarchy as flat as practical without sacrificing clarity. A well-structured, shallow hierarchy improves efficiency for both web and handheld users.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • All edits are audited — changes to location data are tracked automatically, so no manual record-keeping is required.

  • Hierarchy depth affects usability — review your location structure periodically to ensure it remains navigable, especially as new locations and sub-locations are added over time.
