Using Coloured Dots to Identify Filter Relationships in ZetaSafe
Overview
ZetaSafe uses a coloured dot system to help users quickly identify relationships between cascading filters. This visual cue makes it easier to associate Compliance Schemes, Asset Types, and Task Types at a glance — particularly useful when working with large numbers of schemes or assets that have similar names.
How Coloured Dots Work
Each top-level filter (such as a Compliance Scheme) is assigned a unique colour. Any Asset Types and Tasks that belong to that scheme will display a matching coloured dot, creating a clear visual link between related items across all filter levels.
For example, if the Asbestos compliance scheme is assigned a green dot, all asset types and tasks within the Asbestos scheme will also display a green dot — making it immediately clear which items belong together without needing to read every label carefully.
Where Coloured Dots Appear
Coloured dots are displayed wherever cascading filters are used in ZetaSafe, including:
Report filters — Compliance Scheme, Asset Types, and Tasks filter fields
Widget configuration screens — when selecting schemes and asset types
Active Assets without Data report — as shown in the screenshots, coloured dots appear against each scheme and asset type in the filter list
Things to Keep in Mind
Colours are assigned at the top-level filter — the Compliance Scheme (or equivalent highest-level filter) determines the colour, which then cascades down to all associated asset types and tasks.
Dots aid identification, not configuration — the coloured dots are a visual aid only and do not affect how filters are applied or how reports are generated.
Particularly useful with large datasets — in environments with many compliance schemes and asset types, coloured dots significantly reduce the time needed to verify filter selections.
